True.

But my point is that, whether it was intentional or not, it's pretty revealing about the underlying politics of this race.

Speaking of cynical...

Watch for the newsclips from McCain's just completed rally in Lakeville, MN... Not McCain... but some of our idiot Minnesotans.

Geez. He manipulates the minds of these simple people with sound bites and false accusations and then his voters feel betrayed when he tries to undue the brainwashing.

Like that woman who said she wont vote for Obama because he's an Arab, then McCain shakes his head and takes the mic from her?  or the other woman who said Obama was a Muslim?  Maybe it was the same woman as I only got a quick view of the story.  Some of those people were just plain stupid

Same woman.

There also was a guy who was "scared" of an Obama presidency... and I don't think he meant scared of his policies.  Scared because of the "terrorist" associations McCain's campaign have kicked up with the whole Ayers thing this week.

I've always liked McCain -- but not his policies.  He really stood up yesterday in Lakeville and demonstrated true character yesterday.

Unfortunately, I think his campaign has had to go negative to try and revive McCain's position... and I think he's starting to regret it... if he was ever truely "for" it.

You know, I actually have sympathy for McCain at this point.  It's kind of trivial, but the look on his face in those videos looks totally like an "Oh my God, what have I done?" look, and it sucks to see a guy who I believe actually did want to have a civilized campaign that focused on issues over character completely fail.  I think we saw him realizing that.

I'm sure Palin out beating the terrorist drum isn't helping things.  She has proven to me that she's an f-ing idiot.  Owen and Scobbs, you said how much you liked her.  Have those thoughts changed over the course of this campaign?

Just watched McCain again in Davenport... and he was, again, trying to keep a pretty viscious crowd civil.

Reminded me of a very good documentary I saw on IFC (Independent Film Channel) a few weeks ago.

Recommended.

what i find funny/odd is watching how the religous right is having a real hard time justifying their support/disent,
because in all reality obama is a far more religous man than mccain.

This whole presidential campaign is just nuts!  I wasn't living here for the last one, but is this typical of all presidential campaigns over here?  Is it just because Obama is such an 'unusual' presidential candidate that people are getting so riled up about it one way or the other?

It just scares me that there's people out there that are so narrow minded and frightened of someone because of their name or color.  Fine if you don't believe in his policies or whatever, but to just think of him as a terrorist because of his name or his loose ties with a non-christian religion just seems really insane. Stupid people shouldn't be allowed to vote.

I don't think the goal of those ads were to say that Obama is a terrorist.  It was more about questioning his judgement for associating with people like Ayers, but I think they were done in a way where people who don't pay that much attention to politics would get confused.

While I think it's fair to question Obama's judgement in that regard, I don't think it's what the campaign needs to focus on.  McCain has enough fire power regarding real issues to make this a really close race.  I just don't understand why they don't focus on that.  I think these guys need to get some advisors that haven't been in the game for so long.  Talking more about the issues would be refreshing.

Pretty embarrassing video.  Jeesh.

That's what I thought right away.  Man, what a stupid comment.  Maybe he felt that she said "arab" she meant "terrorist?"

FOUL!

I think we all know the implied undertone from the woman... and McCain's INTENT in shutting her down.

Let's not try to make McCain the villian after doing the right thing, please.

Thank you.

What exactly is the implication when they are saying Obama is "palling around with an unrepentent terrorist"? Sorry, but when you're throwing a lie like that out there to get people fired up there really is only one way to interpret it. Especially when it's known that the target audience is going around using Obama's full name to try to make him sound foreign, there have been claims that Obama is a Muslim and that terrorist groups want him to win.

I agree with some others on here who think McCain is now realizing he's created a monster and he regrets it. Politics have never been pretty but these Rovian tactics are abhorrent. Smearing his way into the White House worked twice for Bush but I think just enough people have gotten wise to that strategy that it's now backfiring. And we should all hope it stays that way!

As I was watching stuff about this issue today, I had a mental response to the man who was expecting his first kid and was afraid to bring it into an a world where Obama was President.  I personally am afraid of bringing my first kid into a world where the President of the United States would listen to this kind of ignorance and bigotry and remain silent.  Imagine my elation when I realized that I no longer had to worry about that.

Totally agreed. I was proud of McCain for straying from the prescribed talking points to inject a little respect and d
