So David just posted this on the Area 52 website, and I thought I'd repost it here.  Anyone wanting the address and directions to 52 should email David at davidslam at area-52 dot org.

Area 52 will be having its annual Halloween costume party on Friday, October 24th.

We will be having five bands:

Self Evident
Hunting Club
Suck!
Iced Ink
Swampp Gass

The artists in the building are creating a haunted house, and we plan to help with that and also decorate the third floor. Jon Erikson, from Dramatic Environments, will be creating from scratch many of the decorations. In exchange for his labors and materials, he'd like some help putting everything up, which we plan to do the night before at the latest. Please let me know if you can volunteer your time.

Jon is also one hell of a costume designer/creator. He will be on-hand to help you with body part casting and other costume-related efforts. If you want a cast, you'll have to pay a small fee for the materials, but it's worth it, I assure you. Caz is getting her chest done, if that's any indication. :D

There will be a costume contest, with prizes, for scariest, most creative, and sexiest costumes. There will be a panel of judges this time, with audience input breaking any ties.

We had a lot of problems with underage drinking last year. We spent more time running around chasing after kids than we did enjoying the party, so this year the party is 21+. Those under 21 may be able to attend if they contact me in advance and we sort out some details. People will be carded at the door, so please don't ruin it for everyone else. We no longer do a New Year's party for this very reason, and it would suck to have to stop doing the Halloween party as well.

As always, there will be nothing for sale, and no cover charge, so you'll have to bring whatever you want to drink. If there is interest, we'll coordinate some munchies.

We also had a problem last year with assholes who wanted to start fights. Sadly, these people were not strangers (though not regulars, either). As such, we will not be advertising this party in Rift, City Pages, Craigslist, or MySpace, as we've done in the past. Advertising will be limited to word-of-mouth and postings here and on MusicScene. We don't care if strangers come, but we're hopeful that those who do won't be dicks.

Door opens at 8:30, and music starts at 9:30. This coincides with the end of the open studio event in the building that night, so we're thinking that some of the people coming to see the art stuff might stick around. Art-A-Whirl ended up being pretty darn fun because of this!

The two final bands have not yet committed, so if your band is interested and would like to play, please let me know, and you can play if one of them can't do it. There isn't any criteria, although we'd prefer bands that don't frequent Area 52 that much. We'd rather have familiar bands than no bands, though, so don't let that scare you.

I'll add details here as they solidify.

Well people can smoke outside, just like they do in a bar!  Hopefully the smokers can handle the two flights of stairs though, that could be touch a go.

I'm not sure, Caz.  I just had this feeling that A52 was smoke free and that I probably wouldn't be allowed to smoke there when I attend this event.  Please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.  Wink

We've finished recording, so you should be able to check out some of our music prior to the show if you haven't caught us live yet.  I think the roughs sound pretty stellar. Jeff does some nice work.

I do wanna swing by sometime soon and check the place out though.  I have been meaning to for a year or 2, but never have

If we weren't playing outta town that weekend I'd say we could do a different set than we'll play at Newmies.

But that doesn't even matter now does it?

Area-52 halloween parties are notoriously sexy!

For sure! I've passed your name on to David (he doesn't check on here very often).  Like he said, we have two bands in the pipeline (actually three, but we only need two) and we're just waiting to see if they come through or not. We'll keep you posted!

Unless the other three potential bands are someone like Oceansize, The Mars Volta or freeking Prince... the Grand Machine takes precedence.

Well yeah, but it's not nice to bump those guys when we've already asked them!! I'm thinking there's at least one of them that won't be able to do it, if we don't hear this weekend then we'll move on to other bands!
